Pavan 101
I wouldn’t know where to begin to start describing my family, but to be fair, I doubt anyone would.
I happy and regular household with two middle aged parents, two daughters in their twenties and a 19 year old son.
But in this house, age has little to do with power. The eldest daughter, Sonia, is the head of power. First born, so has a close connect with the mother, Sonia is the centre of knowledge and education in the family.
Then of course, the regular power person would be the bread maker, and in this case, that is the Father, Mohan. And indeed he is a powerful force to be reckoned with. If he says no, the answer is no. You don’t question his authority.
And finally, the main cause for power struggle comes when the youngest son turns bratty. Pavan is accustomed to having all he wants and he doesn’t give up too quickly. But then again, being the youngest he does have to prove himself most the times.
The other sister, Resham, is quite self-involved in her own life. She loves her family deeply and is the most adored by the mother and the father, but still her life is a closed book, which rarely opens.
And finally, the mother. The runner of the house hold. Without her, the house would turn upside down, literally. And she does play a very important role too, when it comes to family politics.
Final project video. A group of MBRSC students explain their attempts to increase equipment in the department.

Family Dynamics: The Premaneys
Tolerating Stereotypes
Our synecdoche is Pavan’s Ray Ban sunglasses.
Tall, dark and handsome. Clearly conceited but with a good reason. I m ambitious, I want what I want and I make sure I get it. I am reliable, trustworthy and can always put a smile on anyone’s face. Positivity is my motto and my way of looking at life. Optimist is my backpack and an infectious smile is always carried in my arsenal. I’m 19 and am aware that I have a lot to experience from life. Meeting new people is not a choice anymore since my New Year’s resolution was to talk to someone new everyday (Except for the weekends, boy needs to sleep!). I take on more tasks than I can handle, at times, mainly because I feel unproductive if I am not keeping myself busy all the time. I feel like a slouch and a burden to the society, not doing any good. I am a big supporter of art of any forms. I live and breathe music and there is always music playing in my head, if not around me. Yes, I do think life should come with background music. A Librarian by birth, I seldom believe that Horoscopes are nothing but complete poppycock.
I take pride in my personal charisma and self-representation, which is why I like to dress well in most occasions. What I wear is a direct representation of my personality, or so I believe. Which is why I like to be updated with fashion trends.
My choice in music says a lot about me, I believe. I listen to artists or any and every kind, be it rap, hip-hop, pop, indie, punk, rock, metal or jazz. From Paramore to Lana Del Ray, Vampire Weekend to Rihanna, Lady Gaga to Sex Pistols.
I really don’t know how to explain my persona any better. My school of fishies (close friends) know me best.
You know the expression “he turned heads?” Well this is fully applicable to Pavan Premenay. When he walks into a room, it is hard to miss out on those funky pants, those classy shoes, the well-ironed shirt, the Louis Vuitton bag, and Ray Ban glasses he is wearing. He makes everyone around him seem underdressed. But look past appearances and you will see Pavan is a million characters wrapped up in one. His smile is prevalent and one that reflects his optimism in life. He’s the one always reminding us that there is always a chance for tomorrow, to smile that it happened rather than cry that it’s over, and to open our eyes to the beauty in the world. Cliché? Well you can’t help but get this hopeful impression when you are around him. Also check his Twitter. It’s inspiring maxims central (But disregard the rants he occasionally has).
This is why his friend circle is quite broad- and diverse I might add. To have a friend around you full of positivity and joy is exactly what we all like and that is exactly what he is. Pavan is one that would rather be there than have you be there for give. Ready to give without receiving, and reading to listen without interrupting. No matter how different you are from him, there is no one more accepting that him. It does not matter how much he does not understand or relate to your hobbies, background, or likes and dislikes, he will still take you in with open arms.
In other regards, determined, Pavan aspires to be a big shot in a magazine empire. He double majors in digital production and journalism and although he finds himself overwhelmed with the workload, he keeps his goal in mind and does anything to achieve it. “It doesn’t matter what you end up doing, as long as you’re happy with what you end up doing” he always says. With him- it’s about doing what you love- forget everything else. If any opportunity arises, Pavan makes sure he doesn’t miss it. Whether it be the Dubai Fashion Week, an internship learning opportunity, a fashion event for networking, or a mere campus event for the arts community. Which brings us to the next point: a social butterfly.
You’d think he barely has time to socialize with his double-major, assignments with the MBRSC post, and so forth, Pavan still manages to be quite the popular one out there in the city. “I have to catch up with some friends after class…” he exclaims at least 3 times a week. And his phone never stops ringing with friends asking him where he is. See- it all ties back to his friendship qualities. So keep an eye out for Pavan- with those sharp looks he has- he’s hard to miss.
